The 5 W’s
The 5 W’s
1. Who?
All couples who are preparing to enter into the Sacrament of Marriage in the Roman Catholic Church are welcome to attend an Engaged Encounter weekend. While it is not imperative that you practice your faith, at least one of you would be a baptized Catholic, would have received their First Communion and would have made their Confirmation as a Roman Catholic.
If you are not getting married in the Roman Catholic Church, perhaps, EE is not the best choice of marriage preparation for you. Please consult with your minister or official celebrating your ceremony to determine if this program is suitable for you.
2. What?
Engaged Encounter is a movement that grew out of the Marriage Encounter retreat program and is run solely by volunteers. It is the desire of these volunteers to give couples an awareness of the beauty of the Sacrament in which they are about to enter.
The team, consisting of two married couples and a priest, offers engaged couples a carefully constructed program with relevant themes. It is based on Marriage Encounter, which was developed for married Catholic couples who wished to strengthen their relationship and commitment to each other in the Sacrament of Marriage.
The goal is to take your relationship to a deeper level, with God as your focus and ultimate source of strength and nourishment.

5. Why?
There are many marriage preparation programs available to young couples in the diocese of Montreal, so why should you choose Engaged Encounter over all the other options? The answer to this question is… you don’ have to! Engaged Encounter can be done in conjunction with one or more of the programs available. Realizing that this could become costly, we encourage all couples to do a little research and choose the program that will best suit their needs, their personalities and their budget. What is extremely important is that you do some organized marriage prep. because we at Engaged Encounter truly believe in our slogan, “A wedding is a day, a marriage is a lifetime”. How many hours do we spend preparing for the wedding day? It would be almost impossible to count them! But the day is not the reason you are getting married; your love is. The love you choose to show each and every day to one another. The love with which you have decided you want to nurture so that it may grow in fullness of life in God’s love. The love of God that you have received from your fiancé and the love you have given to him or her. You have made the decision that you will be committed to giving more of God’s love to each other every day for the rest of your lives. That is something with which we would like to help you. A weekend away is not enough to guarantee a successful marriage but we can give you the tools with which you can work for a lifetime of love and unity.
6. How?
We realize this doesn’t start with a ‘W’ but it is important information just the same.
